Sarah at a mini-Schiphol airport at the mini-Netherlands exhibit called Madurodam.

Madurodam

Sarah proposed a trip to Madurodam, near the Hague, and it was an excellent suggestion. The photos explain the concept; it's basically a big park containing replicas of towns, airports, and farms. Many of these have movable components; highways with moving cars and trucks, for example. There are even mini-boats moving around in the ponds, one of which repeatedly catches on fire only to be rescued by a well-aimed plume of water fired from a tiny fire boat. Madurodam successfully captures the full spirit of Holland.

Interestingly, there is a statue of the little Dutch boy putting his finger in the dike (no jokes, please) by the entrance to Madurodam.

Although the Concorde no longer transports giants like us, it still serves the tiny denizens of Madurodam.

The Anne Frank house (the one with nine windows). In the summertime the line for getting into this place is legendarily long, but in November I was able to stroll right in.
